Poem: A Mother Like You

A Mother like you,

Who’s had to deal with us

Since day one

And who had to put up with us

Through all of our tantrums

A Mother like you,

Who takes care of us

In every way

And when we fuss

Knows just what to say

A Mother like you,

Who might yell or complain

But who still loves us

All the same

A Mother like you,

Who pushes us to improve

To chase our dream

To use our talents

You’re not satisfied

If we sit and never move

A Mother like you,

Who teaches us self-control

When we don’t get what we want

And how to work for something

When it’s worth it to us

A Mother like you

Who taught me how to write and read

(who still helps me with my spelling)

Who gave me my love and wonder of stories

That I now live and breathe

A Mother like you,

Who never gives up on us

Even when we push you away

You’ll always be there

At the end of the day

A Mother like you,

Who knows so much

Learning it along the way

Who knows how to research

And who always figures it out someway

A Mother like you,

Who laughs with us

And does crazy things

Like buy a farm and pontoon boat!

A Mother like you,

Who gives such love and sacrifice

Who provides us everything you can

Always putting us before yourself

From the moment your motherhood began

A Mother like you,

Who lets us explore

Who doesn’t seem to worry too much

But when we stay out late

Stays up til you hear us come in the door

A Mother like you,

Who taught us how to be responsible,

To learn from our mistakes

Who would answer our questions

And help us find out more

A Mother like you,

Who always hold us close

You’ll never let us go

Even if we travel far away

With us you’ll always stay

A Mother like you,

Who’s always in the background

Not much by the world’s standards

But more valuable than gold

Because it’s you that really runs this show

A Mother like you

A million words could not describe

How much you do for us

And Trillion words

Could only begin to say

How much you love us

A Mother like you

Who showed me how to be a truly strong woman

By giving yourself away to us everyday

The older I get, the more I realize how incredible you are

And the more I hope that someday

I can be,

A Mother like you.

LOVE YOU MOM!
