Imagine you are on a hunting trip, chasing a strange and unknown prey, when suddenly the roles are reversed, and YOU are the one being hunted. This is the starting point of the most recent episodic story, Lost on the Last Continent, on the blog of Science Fiction author, John C. Wright. As to be expected from Mr. Wright, there is nothing small about this story, and nothing is quite what it seems.
This being an ongoing story, I can only give a short review on what I think of it so far. So… what DO I think of it so far? I think Preston seriously. Cannot. Catch. A Break! The poor dude is in a constant state of harm, fighting, or imminent death. The first handful of episodes follow Preston just trying not to DIE. My favorite part from the beginning was this fight between a whole score of dinosaurs – that was so ridiculous it was great.
Among all the fighting and chasing across the strange land – and Preston getting beat up over and over and over again yet somehow always making it through – we are catching hints of what is really going on. I don’t want to give anything away, because I don’t want to spoil the mystery the seems to be unfolding, so I will say no more on that.
Lost on the Last Continent so far is a thrilling tale of a man whose spirit never breaks, even with all the odds stacked against him. It’s only 20 episodes in, so you still have time to binge and stay caught up with Preston as he tries to survive, find out what’s really going on, and the purpose of why he’s there.
And did I mention it’s all free to read? That’s right, each week Mr Wright takes his time and talents to weave more of this wonder for your entertainment with no charge. But if you do enjoy it and want the story to continue, consider subscribing to his patron or dropping a donation of however much you think the story is worth. Or just five dollars to buy him a cup of coffee, he’d probably like that.
